Australian settlers needed a dog with the stamina to drive cattle long distances across rugged terrain. Their solution was to cross blue neutral collies with the Australian Dingo and the result was the Australian cattle dog.
It has long had a penchant for nipping at the heels of livestock to drive them forward.
And so today this hearty herding dog is also known by two other names, the Blue and Red Heeler..generally.
