A Little Bit More About Labrador Retrievers
- A Labrador Retriever is one of the most famous dog breeds in the world and is well known for their hard-working and eager to please nature and of course, they are superbly loyal too.
- These dogs also have a thing for being cute and playful all of their life.
They are easygoing and labs are quite similar to their cousins the Golden Retrievers in this aspect.
Labradors love water!
Labradors were bred for hunting near water, they were used for fishing and retrieving waterfowls both of these tasks which demanded the dog to be able to swim therefore, they have water repellent coats to keep them warm, a thick tail sometimes referred to as an Otter Tail, which they use as a rudder and webbed feet to swim faster.
They’ll just keep on eating even if they’re full.
Because of this they might get obese quicker than other dogs so make sure you monitor what they eat and when they eat and again, plenty of exercise is needed with this breed.
Labradors can tell you if you have cancer!
Labradors are dogs with a powerful nose and they’ve been trained to sniff out and identify early stages of cancer through work with cancer cell samples!
These dogs can learn to smell the disease, these canines can make a diagnosis by smelling a patient’s breath, blood or stool.
So far, the only known way to screen for the early stages of ovarian cancer is to let a lab sniff the patient, which has a very high success rate.
Scientists believe the labs sniff out changes in volatile organic compounds that suggest cancer and their nose is not limited to just finding out if the patient has cancer.
They can also know if the patient has diabetes just by sniffing the patient!
They have a high pain threshold.
Much like their cousins, the Golden Retrievers, Labradors seem to have a high pain threshold, it means that they’re able to keep their calm even while they receive wounds that would hurt any other dog.
As a result, they’re used in many search and rescue missions as well but in the event that your lab receives injury and appears OK it is because of its high pain threshold so do not be fazed and be sure to take care of his wounds as soon as possible by taking them to a vet if necessary.
a Labrador made his way into a Led Zeppelin song.
Anyone who has listened to Led Zeppelin‘s black dog might have noticed that the song is not about dogs at all. In fact, the name of the song was decided when a black Labrador was wandering around the recording studio.
While they were recording the album Led Zeppelin IV, the nameless black labrador would wander around the grounds and the band would feed it. When they were looking for a title for the track the idea of the dog came to mind and as a result, they named the song Black Dog

Collies muѕt receive rеgulаr grooming.
As thеу аrе рrоnе tо many hеаlth problems, рlеаѕе take them for rеgulаr сhесk-uрѕ. This can be due to them being bred so much, but generally, if you do your due diligence and research when getting one, you will be fine.
Farmers use these dogs so you can gauge from that that they need reliability.
A few facts about Border Collies
Have you ever heard that the border collie is the smartest dog in the world?
It derives from studies by the famous psychologist Stanley Coren, author of the 1994 book the intelligence of dogs, which lists the smartest dog breeds in the world.
The Border Collies are an especially active dog
Not providing enough walks and or physical exercise can lead to various behavioral problems such as destructiveness, hyperactivity, anxiety, or even excessive vocalization.
The Border Collie has many qualities including the ability to herd which stands as exceptional when working as a sheepdog and this was one of the first functions given to this breed.
The Border Collie is very faithful and intelligent so they are ideal for children. Additionally, they are obedient, organized, and tireless dog.
This is why it’s perfect for energetic and non-sedentary children who are able to interact properly that said Border Collies are popular as therapy dogs as well.
Border Collies are ideal for families.
As a Greyhound owner who is now on his 4th Greyhound, I am probably a little bit biased!
However, they really are superb dogs and the greatest thing about them is they are simply so much fun!
Greyhounds have had a pretty bad life since just after the First world war where they have been bred specifically for the racing industry and their plight has been massively overshadowed by the sheer cruelty of the business that has seen so many thousands of dogs every year discarded and destroyed simply because they can’t run fast enough!
It was because of this that I decided to adopt my first Greyhound, Albert, all those years ago in 1999.
Anyways, I have never regretted getting a Greyhound so here are a few facts about them.
Sleek, smooth, and built for speed. A Greyhound is one of man’s best and fastest friends.
On the racetrack, they can reach 45 miles per hour in just 30 feet or just 6 full strides! That really is explosive speed and if you have ever been lucky enough to be near one when they go full tilt at top speed it really is something to see!
They’re just as quick to adapt to life as companions.
General Custer traveled with one, as did George Washington, and today’s fans include author JK Rowling, Simpsons creator, Matt Groening , and actress Bo Derek who owns several retired racers.
Sweet and personable. The Greyhound is one lovable hunk of dog!
The Greyhound one of the oldest breeds is the only dog to be mentioned by name in the Bible.
There are carvings on them in old Egyptian tombs dating back to 2900 BC.
Prior to the early 1900s, only nobility in the UK were allowed to keep them and rulers such as Henry VIII had Greyhounds as pets.
They are delicately framed weighing on average 60 to 70 pounds, and greyhounds are unable to sit like other dogs, they generally go into a sitting position without their rear end touching the ground.
They are easy to groom because of their short coats
Greyhounds are sighthounds. They have incredible eyesight.
The eye placement on a Grey’s head provides a 270-degree field of vision more than twice that of a human.
A Greyhound can see behind its own head!
Their renowned speed is aided by a flexible spine which enables them to run in double suspension gallop.
They love to sleep and also love humans chairs, sofas, and beds to sleep in..so you have been warned!
They are wonderful dogs around children and they love older humans too….even if for many, they have been on the receiving end of cruel treatment by.
I am a huge fan of rescue centers for any or all dogs that you decide to get and you will find many, many wonderful dogs that fall into the breeds mentioned here especially Greyhounds and Labradors.
I could go on and on about Greyhounds, but that really wouldn’t be fair on you so that will be kept for another day.
Hopefully, you now have 8 great ideas for a dog breed to help you choose and the criteria of the dog being perfect as a first-time dog for your family as well.
The best advice is to always get good advice from trainers, kennels, and other owners but it’s ultimately up to you.
